WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO
PRESENT LEGALLY BLONDE JR AND OLIVER! JR.
Our 11-18 year old students will have Rhyl thinking pink when they present their production of Legally Blonde JR. beginning June 23rd, which was announced by Freddie Gershon, CEO of Music Theatre International (MTI). The fun and upbeat musical follows the adventures of a sorority girl named Elle Woods – a Gemini with a double Capricorn moon – who tries to win her ex-boyfriend back by earning a Harvard law degree.
“Legally Blonde JR. may be a comedic, light-hearted show, but it also explores serious themes of self-discovery and independence which resonate with people of all ages,” says Gershon. “We hope everyone in Rhyl is totally psyched to see the show.”
While the older students take on Legally Blonde, Our 7-11 year olds will bring the streets of Victorian England to life when they present the musical Oliver! JR., which was announced by Drew Cohen, president and Chief Executive Officer of Music Theatre International. Based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and adapted from the full-length musical by Lionel Bart who wrote the book, music and lyrics, the show follows a trusting young orphan named Oliver Twist who dreams of finding where he truly belongs.
“In the first act Oliver sings a breathtaking song asking ‘where is love?’ He ultimately finds the answer in the most unlikely places and thanks to the most-marginalized of people,” says Cohen. “Through the process of putting on this award-winning and beloved musical, these students are looking beyond their own labels and social groupings to see each other for who they really are. We think they deserve a standing ovation for all their work,” he adds.
The Little Theatre was taken over by new management in 2020 by Arlena Thornton and Danni Moore. They are both very excited to be creating two named shows. They added “The children are very excited to be taking part in these well known productions. The children's clubs have grown immensely over the past 9 months and their enthusiasm and dedication is unmeasurable. A lot of hard work is going on behind the scenes to bring these shows together and there are still plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved. The shows will showcase the talent we have on our doorsteps and we hope they help bring the community back to the theatre to celebrate it's journey moving forward. With many updates taken place at the theatre such as new heating and a fresh face lift, we look forward to welcoming our audience.”
